Young-Meyer Photography

About the artist:

I am a second generation photographer and I learnt the craft the old way, through my father. I have been extremely lucky to be able to travel to some fantastic locations and capture them in photographs. For the past few years I have been living in London and where better to be for inspiration? One of my favourite subjects are the English gardens, whose beauty cries out to be photographed. With my three passions; travel, gardens and people as my subjects, I hope my images convey the feelings I had when I photographed them.

Growing up with a photographer father, photography was a way of life in our household. The camera was always there. At some point in time, I got tired of being the subject of the photo and decided to be on the other side of the camera which is where I am the most comfortable. Armed with my little Kodak Instamatic, I would click away. I would set up elaborate still life images that I thought were brilliant! A purple flower surrounded by a strand of bright orange beads - only to shoot the photo using black and white film! I have certainly perfected my style since then. I look at everything as if it is a potential photograph, therefore most everything can be a subject, whether it is a lovely shop window, a child in a garden or a famous landmark. I know that I am lucky to have a father who is a professional photographer; he is an extremely valuable resource. The things he has and continues to teach me could never be learnt in a class or from a book. He has passed on his passion for the art. For that I am forever grateful.
